Chrissy met Amy Ozier a year ago—and here they are now for a hope-filled discussion of helping a loved one through an eating disorder. It’s much harder than most people would know, and something no one is really ever ready for. But there are resources, support groups, and, of course, the Lord.
The desire for this episode is to help anyone who is supporting someone they love through their journey to freedom from an eating disorder. That could include parents navigating the role as as a caregiver for their children, supporting a spouse or a parent through their struggles, a sibling, a friend—it’s very encompassing.
There’s so much to this journey and we pray that you hear and feel the love, grace, curiosity, and gentleness poured into this conversation. We begin today with an anonymous overcomer’s story…
In this episode, we cover:
- The individual and family challenges that arise with an eating disorder
- Where to begin if you have a loved one battling an eating disorder
- Who needs to be a part of the treatment team
- Treatment options available within different budgets
- How to handle the emotional intensity of the situation
- The biggest piece of advice every caretaker needs to hear
- Resources for the caretaker who is still in their own eating or body issues
- How nervous system regulation can be supportive
- How being malnourished is directly tied to emotional outbursts
- Ways to break that hyper- and hypoarousal cycle
- The importance of re-prioritizing things for this season of life
- Why it’s so critical to move through this process slowly
- How to notice the effectiveness of treatment
- What to do if there’s been trauma around God or Christianity in the past
Our prayer is always for you to find that Christ-centered freedom and to have this story of being an overcomer one day—or to be of service to others in times of need. If you have questions about anything, you’re always welcome to email us at: admin@findingbalance.com
