“I used to weigh a lot but was able to lose weight through a very structured Christian program. This program teaches that if you take an extra bite of food – meaning something that you know you don’t really need – it is sin. This helped me focus differently on how I was eating, and as a result I’ve lost a lot of weight. The problem is that now I’m worried that I’ve become legalistic. I feel totally guilty all the time – it’s hard to know, after all, if it’s really an “extra bite” or not. And while I’m happy because I’m thinner now, I still feel cranky and frustrated all the time. So I’m wondering, do you think that God is really watching every bite I eat? And do you think I’m “sinning” if I eat too much?”
