Once you realize you have an eating disorder, who should you go to for help? I have been praying about this for some time and God has shown me that my problem is much deeper than just wanting to lose weight. What do I do now? – Dianne
Dear Dianne,
It sounds like you have accepted the depth of your situation. That’s a great step. While there are many people in your life who will probably be wonderful supports to you, having a therapist or counselor who is well trained in disordered eating is an excellent path. See the article “Finding Treatment” for guidance. Remember, you can interview any therapist or counselor to see if you think you would work well with that person. And, of course, the more honest we are in therapy, the better. It sounds like you are already on a path of being honest with yourself. Good for you!

Dianne: I’d just like to add that it’s important to find someone who can address all aspects of your struggle – mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. As you’re interviewing counselors, try to keep this in mind, so that you can find the balanced counsel you need. – Constance
