Recently, I was watching a segment on your website featuring Janie Hubble from Selah House. She was speaking of a tool she uses called the Values Corridor. I really liked the thought of this tool. In the beginning, she said to write down all of the things that you value more than your eating disorder. When thinking about doing this, I value so many things, but honestly and sadly, I feel that my struggles with food, eating, and weight are what I value most. I really don’t want this to be the case. Will this tool be one I can still use….but maybe say, these are the things that I want to value more than my eating disorder? – Jenny
Dear Jenny,
I had the opportunity to shoot that interview with Janie and to hear her heart about this and several other creative tools she employs. And I know from spending time with her that she would say yes, definitely, start with where you’re at and then go from there.
In fact, that is the spirit of all of our Practical Recovery Tips. Remember, it’s about progress, not perfection. It will be progress to even map out on paper how important your “eating stuff” is to you, and to perhaps be able to see some of how it is standing in the way of other values you’d like to take a higher priority in your life.
I wish you the best as you continue your journey toward freedom in this area.
Kindest regards,
Constance Rhodes
